Every year, the Downeast Chapter of Maine Audubon hosts a Hancock County (Maine) birdathon. Multiple teams take to the field to look for as many species of birds as possible, all to raise funds to send local youths to summer camp. The Natural History Center leads a team that focuses on Mount Desert Island. Each year, we find right around 100 species. If you would like to contribute, please send a check, payable to “Downeast Audubon,” c/o The Natural History Center, P.O. Box 6, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. And if you want to follow us on our big day, tune in to our Facebook or Instagram accounts.
