Naturalists for Hire

Do you have a special event where you need a naturalist or lecturer? We can travel to you and provide special programming to fit your needs. The following is a sample of how we share our expertise with targeted audiences:

Shipboard naturalists

Our naturalists have served on ships from Belize to the Baltic, from Alaska to the Arctic and Antarctic, from Newfoundland to New York, to help passengers identify wildlife and understand the oceans and waterways through which they travel. Shipboard programs include lectures, naturalist on deck, shore excursions, and junior naturalist programs. Contracts have included A Prairie Home Companion charters, Road Scholar charters, and cruises with Hapag-Lloyd Adventure Cruises, Victory Cruise Lines, and Blount Small Ship Adventures.

Program naturalist

We are contracted by organizations to develop, coordinate, and deliver a wide diversity of natural history and cultural programming. Programs include birding, tide-pooling, field ecology hikes, fisheries heritage tours, and sea kayaking. Recent contracts have included Family Nature Summit and College of the Atlantic’s Family Nature Camp.

Lecturer

We offer lectures to a variety of local organizations, including Downeast Audubon, Mount Desert Island YMCA, Schoodic Education and Research Center, Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary, and local libraries.

Guest educator

We regularly offer continuing education courses specializing in teaching observation of birds in the field, as well as school-based youth birding programs designed to engage kids in the outdoors.
